All About Residential Air Conditioners These are typical Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in the southern parts of the country. Here in Clear Lake Texas and the Houston area, it stays very hot during the summer months. It is quite common for high temperatures to stay in the upper 90s (97-98) combined with extreme humidity from late June through September. "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" really is true. Humidity can make you feel very uncomfortable when the temperature is as low as 80. Our air conditioners work overtime getting rid of the humidity in our homes. Types of Evaporator coils The evaporator coil is usually located in the attic and attached on the side of the furnace. Air flows from the inside of the house through the furnace and the evaporator coil. The coil is connected to the condenser (outside compressor). The condenser compresses the refrigerant back into a liquid then sends the high pressure (hot) liquid to the evaporator coil. The coil expands the liquid refrigerant making it cold. Air flows over the coil and into the house. The expanded refrigerant (now a gas) returns back to the compressor/condenser and the cycle repeats.
